Eric Birmingham
I’m not sure why random snip-its keep coming to me, but they do. Maybe the writer side of me is telling me that I need to write another novel. I would love to do so – I just don’t have the time right now. So, for now, here’s another snip-it. I’ll let your imagination come up with a middle and ending.Eric Birmingham
It all happened so fast – too fast.
One minute Eric was driving down Becker Street to go see Samantha, and then the next minute his car was on its back in a ditch.
Eric had swerved as a deer ran out in front of him, but in that attempt to save the frail creature, he almost lost his life.
Eric woke up in the hospital a few hours later with a throbbing head.
“Samantha,” he said softly, as his eyes flickered open.
“She’s on her way,” a woman said.
Eric didn’t recognize the woman’s voice. He blinked and realized a nurse was staring at him. It was then that he realized where he was.
“You’re going to be fine,” the woman said reassuringly.
Eric started to remember what had happened.
“There was a deer…” he said.
“You should rest, Mr. Birmingham,” the nurse said.
“But Samantha…”
“She will be here soon,” the nurse said and exited the room.
Eric wished that the pain in his head would go away. He silently cursed the deer.
Maybe I should take up hunting as a hobby, he thought.
Eric then let his focus go back to Samantha. He yearned to see her face – to touch her hand. Being in a hospital room was making him feel nauseous and close to death. Samantha would make him feel real and alive again.
But when Samantha appeared by the door, Eric wondered if he was in heaven.
After all, she was as beautiful as an angel.
